Selecting a Lawyer Specializing in Civil Trial Law
When you need the services of an attorney, you want to know you are working with the very best. Navigating the legal system can be complex and frustrating to all but the most experienced. That’s why when you hire a lawyer to handle your case you want someone who has legal expertise in line with your specific needs.
The Florida Bar offers a Board Certification program for Florida Bar members. This certification program is the highest level of recognition for attorneys for competency and experience is specific areas of law. For example, a board certified civil trial lawyer must have practiced law on a full-time basis for at least five years and been substantially involved in the area of civil trial law during the three years preceding application for certification. To be certified, the lawyer is required to have conducted at least 15 contested civil cases in courts of general jurisdiction, including cases before a jury and as lead counsel. Each certified lawyer must be peer-reviewed, complete 50 hours of continuing legal education within the previous three years, and pass a written examination demonstrating knowledge, skills, and proficiency in the field. Board certification is valid for five years, during which time the attorney must continue to practice law and attend Florida Bar-approved continuing legal education
